An Alert re Credit Confusion on “The Blood of Yingzhou District《潁州的孩子》” and “China’s Unnatural Disaster:  The Tears of Sichuan Province《劫後天府淚縱橫》”

We were fortunate to win an Oscar for our 2006 film, “The Blood of Yingzhou District”.

Documentary films from China are now back in the news, with “China’s Unnatural Disaster…” nominated in the same category as ours: the Documentary Film Short.

We are in no way connected to “China’s Unnatural Disaster…”  and are not speaking on behalf of that film.  But we have been surprised to see a series of recent interviews with Michelle Mi (Chinese name: 米子) discussing her role in both films.   She has presented herself as the primary filmmaker on “Blood…”.

We realize that intellectual property is a less strict concept in China than here in the USA, but by any standards, this is incorrect information.  The credits for “Blood…” are widely available (see for example, IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0859595/fullcredits).

Michelle Mi was the Production Manager on “Blood…” tasked with logistics and coordination.

We thought it would be helpful to flag this issue pro-actively, before all the Oscar reporting reaches its peak next week, to protect us all from mistakes. I am sure you appreciate how important for us it is to see these film credits handled correctly.
